Harry Maguire will lose the Manchester United captaincy this summer even if he decides to stay
Harry Maguire will reportedly be axed as Manchester United’s captain in the coming week – even if he remains at Old Trafford. The 30-year-old centre-back has been linked with a move away from the Theatre of Dreams after falling down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag.
Man United have reportedly slapped a £50 million price tag on Harry Maguire, but not many candidates have emerged for his signature to pay that amount. He started just eight Premier League games last season, with Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and even left-back Luke Shaw preferred instead.
Bruno Fernandes deputised in the England international’s absence, with the pair lifting the Carabao Cup together after the final triumph over Newcastle. The Portuguese is set to be named as United’s skipper on a full-time basis.
Manchester United paid Leicester £85 million to buy Maguire in 2019. Newcastle and Aston Villa have been linked with a move for the English international.
