Mary Moraa wins sensational women’s 800m gold.
The 23-year-old, Mary Moraa, enjoyed a great moment of her life with her bronze medal replaced by a shining gold as she ran a personal best time of 1:56.03.
As she passed the finish line, Moraa leapt into the air punching her fist to celebrate her second major International gold in a year after her victory at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Her sheer joy was evident for everyone in the stadium to see as she broke out into an impromptu dance on the track with many Kenyan fans in the stands dancing along with her to celebrate.
Even long after the race ended she lay on the floor draped in the Kenyan flag as if she didn’t want this moment to end.
Moraa is a great icon who has risen from a difficult childhood where she grew up as an orphan in a remote part of Kenya to now being a World Champion.
Having been orphaned at a very tender age, Moraa encountered a grueling battle to survive alongside her three siblings.
Interestingly, her mother was also a runner and this really inspired Moraa even from a tender age.
Moraa hopes to bag more wins in the future.
“My heart is full knowing that I’m inspiring a lot of girls and those that follow me, ‘If Moraa can, they can!’” Moraa said.
