Rasmus Hojlund has signed for Man Utd from Atalanta for a deal of £72m.
Entrusting a relatively inexperienced 20-year-old with the crucial responsibility of leading Manchester United’s goalscoring carries an undeniable element of risk.
As Rasmus Hojlund engaged in confidential discussions with Christian Eriksen, it became apparent that the young forward would now find himself thrust into an entirely new realm of attention, expectation, pressure, and noise as the club’s latest acquisition.
Not only does Hojlund shoulder the burden of being the focal point for one of the world’s biggest teams – a team determined to reclaim its status as title contenders – but he is also a costly acquisition. United had to shell out an initial £64m, plus £8m in additional fees, to secure his services from Atalanta.
However, despite this hefty price tag, the club firmly believes that Erik ten Hag’s coaching prowess and broad perspective will ultimately prove that this investment was a bargain.
Although Hojlund is still young and relatively inexperienced, his manager has detected both confidence and depth in his personality traits – qualities that distinguish him as someone poised for success.
Similar to Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, and Andre Onana specifically; Ten Hag is convinced that his newest recruit possesses the kind of strong character necessary to thrive at United.
Furthermore,Hojlund excels at making well-timed runs behind opposing defenses. He also demonstrates exceptional pressing abilities while displaying positional intelligence and physical dominance on the field.
His direct approach combined with aggression in attacking areas has been sorely lacking within the club.
