Mikel Arteta has acknowledged that Arsenal’s performance in front of goal has not met expectations.
However, he maintains that the team is not currently considering signing a striker during the January transfer window.
In Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham, Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah both started but faced criticism for their failure to score. Despite this, Arsenal have managed to score 11 goals in the Premier League so far this season, only slightly below an expected total of 11.38 goals based on statistical analysis.
Arteta emphasized that there are multiple ways to score goals and believes that Arsenal is still finding success in this aspect of their game.
Contrary to reports suggesting interest in Ivan Toney as a potential signing when his suspension ends next year, Arteta dismissed rumors about acquiring a new striker when asked about it.
“We’re not thinking at all about that. We have really good players up front. It’s true that right now we have some injuries. We will continue with the players we have.”
Arteta mentioned Toney when questioned about the decline of traditional No 9 in football, stating that it is making a comeback.
