Spain midfielder Gavi suffered a serious knee injury in the Euro 2024 qualifying win over Georgia.
The Barcelona player, 19, hurt himself while controlling the ball in space and left the Valladolid pitch in tears.
Gavi is a key player for club and country, with 27 caps for Spain and 111 appearances for Barca.
He was seen grimacing on the pitch as he limped off the pitch after having tried
to continue, but unable.
He was forced to come off in tears.
His team now face an anxious wait till they learn about the severity of the injury, though there are speculations that he injured his knee badly.
The RFEF stated: “It’s a serious injury to his right knee, but we need to wait to see how bad it actually is.”
Barca and Spain team-mate Ferran Torres celebrated his goal by hoisting Gavi’s number nine shirt, leaving fans to conclude the injury could be a bad one.
Gavi has been a regular figure for the Catalonians since making his debut in July 2021, appearing on 111 occasions across all competitions and netting seven times.
It is understood that the 19-year-old will now return to Barca for detailed examinations on Monday that will help determine the specific timeline for recovery.
