Benjamin Mendy has initiated legal proceedings against Manchester City, seeking compensation for unpaid wages.
The 29-year-old former defender recently lodged a claim with the Employment Tribunal, alleging “unauthorized deductions from wages.” This claim stems from the period when he faced charges of rape and sexual assault in 2021.
In July, Mendy was acquitted by a jury in a retrial held at Chester Crown Court. Earlier this year, he had already been found not guilty of sexual offenses against several women; however, the jury couldn’t reach verdicts on two charges, leading to the retrial.

Mendy’s claim revolves around reclaiming his outstanding pay until his contract expired in June 2023. Acting on behalf of Mendy is Nick De Marco KC, who confirmed that he filed the claim with Sky Sports News.
A statement issued by Nick De Marco KC reads: “I am representing Benjamin Mendy as instructed by Laffer Abogados (Madrid) in a multi-million-pound lawsuit concerning unauthorized wage deductions against his former club Manchester City.”
It is clear that Benjamin Mendy is pursuing legal action to secure what he believes is rightfully owed to him for services rendered during his time at Manchester City.
In September 2021, Manchester City FC neglected to pay any wages to Mr. Mendy after he was charged with multiple offenses, although he was later cleared of all charges until the end of his contract in June 2023. This issue will be brought up in an Employment Tribunal. Manchester City did not respond when questioned by Sky Sports News.
Mr. Mendy joined City from Monaco for a record fee of £52m in 2017 and became the most expensive defender in Premier League history as a result. During his time at City, he won three championships and contributed to France’s World Cup victory in 2018.
Despite being one of the club’s key players, Mr. Mendy last played for them back in August 2021 before moving on to Lorient football club where he currently plays for Ligue 1 league matches.
