Everton secured a 3-0 victory over Newcastle thanks to two costly errors made by Kieran Trippier.
These mistakes allowed Dwight McNeil and Abdoulaye Doucoure to score late goals for Everton, lifting them out of the Premier League relegation zone. Just a few weeks ago, Everton had received a 10-point deduction due to financial issues, which left them in the bottom three. However, they have now climbed up to 17th place and are one point above Luton.
"It's a reward for the level of performance [at home]. The mentality is growing here."

In the match against Newcastle, McNeil proved to be the hero once again after his winning goal in their previous game against Nottingham Forest. He capitalized on Trippier’s first error by quickly seizing control of the ball and sprinting towards goal. With just 11 minutes remaining on the clock, McNeil finished impressively past Newcastle’s stand-in goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.
Trippier’s reliability was called into question once more as Jack Harrison forced another mistake from him shortly after McNeil’s goal. Harrison crossed the ball into Doucoure who converted it from close range, leading to scenes of celebration amongst Everton fans. These supporters continue to protest against their club’s punishment for financial issues but remain hopeful as an appeal has been made.
The joyous atmosphere at Goodison Park was heightened when Beto scored his first Premier League goal deep into injury-time after beating the offside trap. This sealed Everton’s convincing win over Newcastle and added another memorable moment to their season.
The turn of events involving Trippier’s mistakes and Beto finally scoring completely changed the course of the night. Prior to that, Everton had been squandering numerous opportunities at Goodison Park. One notable miss was Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s unmarked volley from just four yards out, which could easily be considered as a contender for miss of the season.
Even though Anthony Gordon, who was facing his former club, threatened to make them pay with three attempts on goal, he failed to convert any of them into accurate finishes. He had a great chance when he dispossessed James Tarkowski in Everton’s box but couldn’t capitalize on it.
On the other hand, Newcastle put up a lackluster performance due to injuries plaguing their team. They have fielded the same outfield players for four consecutive games now and it seems they have lost their momentum under Eddie Howe’s management. As a result, they remain in seventh place in the standings.
