Howe emphasizes that this outcome is particularly disheartening because Newcastle has been plagued by injuries, with nine first-team players currently sidelined. As a result, crucial games had to be played without key performers like Sven Botman, Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes, and Nick Pope due to their unavailability caused by this extensive list of injured stars.
“We entered the season fully aware of the strength of our squad and understood its significance, particularly given the intensity of the matches. Regrettably, we have lost that strength,” he stated during his press conference following the match.
We have encountered numerous difficulties in our Champions League games due to limited options for team selection and in-game adjustments. This has adversely affected us in several matches.
This is not an excuse; it is simply a reflection of reality. Today as well, I was compelled to make two changes that I would have preferred not to make. We are deeply saddened by the outcome.”
