Chelsea progress in Carabao Cup thanks to penalties win

Chelsea advanced to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup in a thrilling manner, defeating Newcastle 4-2 in a penalty shootout after securing a late 1-1 draw.

Newcastle seemed poised for victory after Callum Wilson scored in the 16th minute, but Chelsea mounted a comeback in stoppage time with Mykhailo Mudryk finding the back of the net. The match ultimately went to penalties, where Kieran Trippier and Matt Ritchie missed from twelve yards, giving Chelsea the win.

Unfortunately for Newcastle, last season’s runners-up, their quest for their first trophy since 1969 will have to continue.

What comes after this?

Wolves will be hosting Chelsea on Christmas Eve, and the match will be broadcasted live on Sky Sports Premier League at midday, with a kick-off time of 1pm. Following that, Chelsea will be hosting Crystal Palace on December 27th, with a kick-off time of 7.30pm.

Newcastle’s next game is against Luton on Saturday at 3pm. It’s another trip down south for them. After Christmas, Newcastle will then be hosting Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day with a kick-off time of 12.30pm.
