Arsenal drop to second with a 2-0 loss at West Ham

Arsenal had an opportunity to reclaim the top spot in the Premier League, but they missed it as West Ham clinched a 2-0 victory in a London derby.

The game was marked by controversies, starting with Tomas Soucek’s goal in the first half. Soucek managed to tap the ball into the net from close range after receiving a cross from Jarrod Bowen. However, there was some debate about whether or not the ball had gone out of play before Bowen’s assist.

The controversial goal went through an extensive VAR check that lasted for three and a half minutes. Despite various camera angles being reviewed, none provided conclusive evidence on whether or not the ball crossed the line before Soucek scored. Ultimately, the goal was awarded to West Ham.

In the second half, Dinos Mavropanos made his return to his former club count by scoring West Ham’s second goal of the match. Mavropanos headed in James Ward-Prowse’s corner kick to extend their lead over Arsenal.

Despite controlling much of the first half and creating several opportunities, Arsenal failed to convert them into goals. As a result, they were unable to secure victory and regain their position at the top of league standings.

After Bukayo Saka’s shot hit the post and Gabriel Jesus squandered two clear opportunities for Arsenal, frustration began to build. Declan Rice, a former player of West Ham, committed a reckless foul on Emerson, resulting in a penalty. However, David Raya managed to save Said Benrahma’s spot kick in the final moments of the game.

Despite having 30 shots throughout the match, Arsenal failed to score a single goal. As a result, they now trail behind Premier League leaders Liverpool by two points. Meanwhile, West Ham has overtaken Manchester United and reclaimed sixth place in the league standings.
