Andrey Santos has been recalled from his loan at Nottingham Forest

Chelsea have confirmed that Andrey Santos has returned to the club after a loan spell at Nottingham Forest for the first half of this season.

Santos is now back at Stamford Bridge after making only two appearances during his temporary stint with Forest.

He returns to Chelsea from his disappointing loan spell at Nottingham Forest, where he only played a total of 97 minutes over a 6-month period.

The 19-year-old starlet was on the top of the world less than a year ago. He had just signed for Chelsea in January 2023 and then went on to win the 2023 South American U-20 Championship with Brazil, where he not only captained his national team but was also the joint-top scorer in the tournament.

Unfortunately, life comes at you fast in football and so it did for young Santos. While he featured heavily in Chelsea’s preseason, his loan move went in the opposite direction. He was practically forgotten by a team who are in a relegation battle (5 points clear but having played one game more). Forest signing long-term target Ibrahim Sangaré almost immediately after Santos joined them was a bad sign from the very beginning.

Chelsea are unlikely to consider retaining Santos’ services courtesy of him being cup-tied for the EFL Cup and there already being six players who are deemed to be ahead of him in the pecking order.
