Real Madrid emerged victorious over Atletico Madrid in a thrilling Spanish Super Cup semi-final held in Saudi Arabia.
The match was filled with excitement as both teams displayed their skills and determination.
The first goal of the game came from Atletico’s Mario Hermoso, who headed the ball into the net. Real Madrid quickly responded with an impressive header from Antonio Rudiger, leveling the score. Just before halftime, Ferland Mendy flicked in Dani Carvajal’s cross to give Real Madrid a well-deserved lead.

Atletico didn’t back down and fought hard to equalize. Antoine Griezmann, a key player for Atletico, scored his 174th goal for the club, setting a new record. However, Rudiger accidentally scored an own goal shortly after Griezmann’s goal, bringing Atletico level once again.
As neither team could secure victory within regulation time, the match went into extra time. It was during this period that Real Madrid showed their resilience and determination to win. A late own goal by Stefan Savic gave Real Madrid an advantage on the scoreboard.
The final blow came from Brahim Diaz when he raced against Atletico keeper Jan Oblak and successfully found an empty net from 40 yards out.
With this victory secured, Real Madid now awaits either Barcelona or Osasuna – who will face off in Thursday’s other semi-final – in Sunday’s final showdown. If Barcelona wins their semi-final match it would set up another El Clasico final following last year’s clash where Barcelona triumphed with a scoreline of 3-1.
Antoine Griezmann made history during this game by becoming Atletico’s all-time leading scorer surpassing Luis Aragones’ record with his excellent strike from outside the box after skillfully beating two defenders along his way.
However, Diego Simeone’s team fell short despite their efforts. They had come within five minutes of reaching the final before Carvajal’s goal shattered their hopes. Additionally, they were just four minutes away from a penalty shootout when Savic unfortunately deflected the ball into his own net.
Looking ahead, Atletico’s upcoming match will once again be against Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey last 16 next Thursday.
