Arsenal suffer disappointing loss at Porto

Porto took the lead in their Champions League last-16 tie against Arsenal with a stoppage-time goal by Galeno, leaving the London club stunned.

The Brazilian winger displayed excellent control before curling a superb shot into the net, out of reach for goalkeeper David Raya. Sergio Conceicao’s team had missed an opportunity to go ahead in the first half when Galeno’s shot hit the post and he failed to convert on the rebound.

However, Galeno made no mistake in securing victory for Porto with his goal in the dying moments of the game. Earlier, Nico Gonzalez had come close to scoring for Porto with a powerful strike that went over the bar as they attempted to break through Arsenal’s defense.

In the game, Arsenal controlled the ball for most of the time but failed to make any shots on goal. Both William Saliba and Kai Havertz missed their chances to score from corners by heading wide. The upcoming second leg will be held at Emirates Stadium on 12 March, where Arsenal will be aiming to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since 2009-10.

Throughout the match, Arsenal had several opportunities from set-pieces, but they lacked accuracy in their finishing. In one such situation, Declan Rice delivered a corner that was met with a volley by Leandro Trossard; however, he shot over the crossbar.

In order to avoid elimination from Europe’s premier competition in the last-16 stage for the eighth consecutive time, Arsenal will have to significantly enhance their performance in London next month.
