Christian Pulisic, the captain of the US Men’s National Team, marked his debut with Italian club AC Milan by scoring a remarkable goal that left fans in awe.
Pulisic, who recently made the switch from Chelsea to AC Milan during the summer transfer window, orchestrated a smooth one-two play with Olivier Giroud before powerfully striking the ball into the net.
The 24-year-old’s explosive 21st-minute shot marked the second goal of the evening in AC Milan’s 2-0 triumph over Bologna, kickstarting the team’s Serie A campaign on a high note.
Reflecting on his move to Italy, Pulisic shared his enthusiasm: “It felt like the perfect progression for my career; I’ve been embraced with open arms and am truly thrilled to be part of this club.” Speaking to DAZN post-match, he said, “Personally, it’s an outstanding start. Scoring a goal is gratifying, and maintaining a clean sheet while securing a win adds to the satisfaction.”
Giroud opened Milan’s scoring with an 11th-minute goal, tapping the ball home from close range.
AC Milan, after a less-than-stellar defense of their Serie A title in the prior season (although they reached the Champions League semifinals), embarked on an ambitious recruitment drive during the offseason, aiming to reclaim the Scudetto.
Despite the departure of midfield maestro Sandro Tonali to Newcastle United in the English Premier League, Milan reinvested the transfer funds to bolster various aspects of their team.
The club brought in a host of talents, including midfielders Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Luka Romero, Tijjani Reijnders, and Yunus Musah, along with forwards Noah Okafor and Samuel Chukwueze. Among these acquisitions, Pulisic arguably shines as the marquee addition.
Having experienced a somewhat lackluster conclusion to his stint in London, where he amassed 145 appearances and notched 26 goals for Chelsea, Pulisic has set his sights on a rejuvenated chapter in Italy.
