Sean Dyche expressed his growing frustration with VAR after Everton’s goalless draw against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup third-round.
The match took an unfortunate turn when Dominic Calvert-Lewin received a harsh red card for a challenge on Nathaniel Clyne. Despite making minimal contact with Clyne’s shin, Calvert-Lewin was sent off following an on-field review recommended by Craig Pawson, the VAR official.

During the second half of the tightly contested game at Selhurst Park, Everton pushed hard to break the deadlock. Calvert-Lewin slid in to win possession from Clyne, and referee Chris Kavanagh initially allowed play to continue. However, upon noticing that Clyne remained down after the challenge, Kavanagh decided to consult VAR.
The decision ultimately resulted in Calvert-Lewin’s dismissal and dealt another blow to Everton when Dwight McNeil had to be stretchered off due to injury. Nevertheless, Sean Dyche reassured everyone that McNeil is “OK.” Despite these setbacks, Everton managed to hold on for a well-deserved draw.
As a result of this outcome, Crystal Palace will now visit Goodison Park for a replay match against Everton. This incident has further fueled Dyche’s exasperation with VAR as it continues to test his patience in its implementation throughout football matches.
