In an impressive display, Manchester City surged into second place in the Premier League, trailing leaders Liverpool by a mere two points.
Phil Foden’s outstanding performance, resulting in a hat-trick, served as the driving force behind their convincing victory over Brentford.
Initially, it was Brentford who took the lead with Neal Maupay’s goal on the breakaway in the 21st minute. However, Bees’ goalkeeper Mark Flekken put on an extraordinary show to keep the reigning champions at bay with a series of remarkable saves until Foden came to City’s rescue just before halftime.

Foden’s goal injected much-needed momentum into City’s game. He added another eight minutes into the second half when he cleverly positioned himself behind Brentford’s defense and deftly redirected Kevin de Bruyne’s cross past Flekken.
Despite being dominated throughout most of the match, Brentford had occasional opportunities to level scores. Ivan Toney came close but unfortunately volleyed over from close range. Nevertheless, City displayed their superiority and sealed their victory 20 minutes before full time when Foden expertly received Erling Haaland’s pass and guided it past Flekken.
Towards the end of the game, tempers flared between Kyle Walker and Maupay which resulted in a heated altercation. Manager Pep Guardiola had to intervene to calm down Walker but refrained from commenting after post-match.
Manchester City demonstrated why they are genuine title contenders with this emphatic win against Brentford.
With a win over Everton at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon, City can now take the top position in the Premier League title race. Their dominance continues to grow as they assert their presence in the competition.
