Mauricio Pochettino has implied that Chelsea should consider making investments in the upcoming January transfer window, as he believes his team is lacking something essential.
Under Pochettino’s guidance, Chelsea experienced consecutive defeats for the first time ever when they were defeated 2-0 by Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.
Despite spending over £1 billion on players since Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali took over from Roman Abramovich in May 2022, Chelsea currently sits in 12th place in the Premier League. They are now 18 points behind Liverpool, who leads the league, and only have a 10-point cushion above relegation after playing 16 matches this season.

During the summer transfer window under Pochettino’s management, Chelsea brought in a total of thirteen new players at an expense exceeding £400 million. However, despite these efforts to strengthen their squad, there is still room for improvement according to Pochettino.
When asked if further reinforcements are needed next month for Chelsea, Pochettino responded by saying that it is all about progress. He emphasized that after four to five months and sixteen games played so far this season it is crucial to assess where improvements can be made.
Pochettino also highlighted missed opportunities during their recent game against Everton stating that if they want to secure victory then converting chances into goals is imperative.
Pochettino said their aim is to secure a higher position in the table. Despite playing well against a tough opponent like Everton, scoring is crucial. As they’re approaching the midpoint of the season, a thorough evaluation is necessary. If their defensive record is lacking, adjustments might be needed.
This analysis, involving the sporting directors, will determine if changes can enhance Chelsea’s performance in the second half of the season.
