Toni Kroos, the midfielder for Real Madrid, has decided to end his retirement from international football and will be returning to play for Germany in Euro 2024.
The 34-year-old was a crucial part of the German team that secured victory in the 2014 World Cup and has accumulated an impressive record of 106 appearances for Die Mannschaft.
His retirement came in July of last year, but he has now made the decision to reverse it after discussions with Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann. In an Instagram post, Kroos expressed his reasons for coming out of retirement: “I’ll be playing for Germany again starting from March. Why? Because I was asked by the coach and I’m ready for it.” He also expressed optimism about their prospects at the upcoming European Championship: “I strongly believe that our team is capable of achieving much more than what most people anticipate at this moment.”

Throughout his club career, Kroos has attained great success by winning three Bundesliga titles and three La Liga titles with Real Madrid. Additionally, he boasts an impressive collection of five Champions League winners’ medals.
Kroos’s achievements extend beyond club football as well. Aside from their World Cup triumph in 2014, he was a key player on German teams that secured third place in the 2010 tournament and reached the semi-finals in Euro 2012.
With his return to national duty confirmed, Kroos is eligible to be selected by Nagelsmann for next month’s friendly matches against France and Netherlands. The opening match of Euro 2024 will take place on Friday, June 14th when Germany faces Scotland at Munich’s Allianz Arena.
